Semiahmoo Conference Center

Semiahmoo Hotel and Conference Center, located in Blaine a short distance from the Canadian Border, is situated on a long sand spit at the edge of Drayton Harbor. Surrounded by water, the building was sited to take advantage of inspiring views and the restful ambience of the secluded location. George Kaage, Director of the Landscape Archtecture Department at the Jay Group, was responsible for the design and construction administration of all the landscaped grounds at the Conference Center.


The articulation of the entry drive as a sweeping allee bordered with Sugar Maples frames and announces the approach to the building. The pedestrian scale is addresses with low fencing and border plantings along the walkway. Gentle berming softly separates parking areas and creates an organic feel to the linear space.



The garden areas surrounding the Hotel are scaled for intimate as well as large gatherings The spacious rear lawn is sized to complement the tall elevation of the building and to provide multi-use passive and active recreational space. A viewing deck, putting green, horseshoe pit, volleyball court and semi enclosed patio areas provide a variety of environments to enjoy the natural beauty of the site.
